What we do
Six kinds of help, working together
Housing without a job plan does not hold. A job without a bus pass does not hold. We do the whole thing at once, because that is the only way it actually works.
Everything here is free to the person we serve. You do not need insurance, an ID, or a referral to start. Call (202) 491-3155 or use the short form.
Supportive Housing
A safe place to stay
A bed, a door that locks, and staff who know your name.
Our Houston home offers 20 beds with case management built in. Residents get a real bedroom, shared common space, and staff on site — not a mat on a floor and a 6 a.m. exit.
We support short-term stays for someone bridging a gap, and long-term stays for people who need time to get steady. Nobody is put out on a timer.
What is included
- Short-term and long-term supportive housing
- Central Houston location near transit, work and services
- Case management from the first day, not on request
- Coordination with medical, behavioral health and social service providers
- Exit planning that starts early, so leaving is a step up and not a cliff
Who it is for: Adults leaving a shelter, hospital, treatment program, reentry, or the street.
Case Management
Someone in your corner
One person who knows your whole situation and stays with it.
Most people in a hard season are not short on advice — they are short on someone who keeps track. Your case manager does a needs assessment, writes a service plan with you (not for you), and checks in on it.
When five agencies each hold one piece of your life, we do the calling so you do not have to repeat your story five times.
What is included
- Needs assessment in the first week
- An individualized service plan you help write
- Regular check-ins and progress reviews
- Coordination across medical, behavioral health, benefits and legal providers
- Help getting ID, birth certificates and Social Security cards
Who it is for: Anyone in our housing program, and community clients by referral.
Career & Employment Support
Help finding a job
From a blank page to a paycheck.
We build your resume with you, run practice interviews until they stop being scary, and work the job search together — applications, follow-ups, and the awkward parts.
We also help with what gets in the way: work clothes, a bus pass, an email address that does not embarrass you, and a plan for the gap on your resume.
What is included
- Resume development and cover letters
- Mock interviews and coaching
- Job search strategy and application help
- Placement assistance and employer connections
- Workplace readiness — communication, expectations, follow-through
Who it is for: Residents and community members in Phoenix and Houston.
Digital Literacy & Workforce Readiness
Learn to use a computer
Almost every job application is online now. We make sure that is not the wall you hit.
We start wherever you are. If you have never used a mouse, that is where we start. If you need to pass an Excel test for a job, we work on that.
Classes are small and hands-on. Nobody is embarrassed here.
What is included
- Basic computer skills — keyboard, mouse, files, printing
- Email you can actually use for job applications
- Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook
- Google Workspace: Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Drive
- Online job applications and portals
- Professional communication — email, phone, video calls
Who it is for: Open to residents and community members. No experience needed.
Education & Training Referrals
School and training
We know which doors are open and how to get you through them.
A GED, a certificate, a trade, or a college pathway — the hard part is usually not the studying, it is knowing which program takes people in your situation and how to pay for it.
We connect you to the program, help with the application, and stay in touch while you are in it.
What is included
- GED preparation programs
- Vocational and trade training
- Certificate programs
- Community college and college pathways
- Financial aid and enrollment support
Who it is for: Residents and community members.
Life Stabilization Support
Food, benefits and health
The things that have to be handled before anything else works.
You cannot job-hunt on an empty stomach or with an untreated infection. We handle the immediate needs first and the paperwork behind them second.
Benefits applications get denied on technicalities all the time. We know the technicalities.
What is included
- Food assistance and pantry connections
- Housing referrals beyond our own program
- Healthcare and behavioral health connections
- Benefits navigation — SNAP, Medicaid, SSI/SSDI, TANF
- Vital documents: ID, birth certificate, Social Security card
- Transportation help for appointments and interviews
Who it is for: Residents and community members in both states.
Not sure which one you need?
That is normal. Call us and we will figure it out together — it is a twenty-minute conversation, not an application.
